Welcoming Committee

Page history last edited by Casey 12 years ago

The welcoming committee is a mostly informal grouping of people whose primary goal is making new arrivals feel welcome by providing them with information and the comforts of home. Anyone may consider themselves on it if they wish. It entails, but is not limited to, putting together welcome baskets for the recently arrived.

Welcome Baskets: Contains pretzels, nuts, cookies, chocolates, jam, crackers, jelly beans, assorted fruits, bottled water and juice, an extra blanket, scented hand lotion, candles, matches, a flashlight, extra batteries, a first aid kit, a personalized card from Miranda, and a picture frame with a default photo from around the prison of the gardens, dolphins or the beach. It is all in a sturdy, white wicker basket with a handle.

It also contains a brochure (View JPGs (click to enlarge) or download PDF) prepared by Lelouch and Euphie featuring helpful information not found in the AI's welcome statement. And it has the Marina Academy catalog and a brochure for the Post Office.

Seasonal additions:

(cold times) gloves, scarf

(warm times) sunglasses, beach towel

Anyone on the committee may include extra items in baskets they are distributing or make suggestions for new items to carry. Right now the baskets don't include items that require refrigeration for ease of advanced preparation. They are stored in cabinets along the walls in the shelter's kitchen.

Info for the Committee:  Please feel free to mention working on baskets whenever you like or just assume it is something your character does (or fails to do) in the background.

Info for New Arrivals: You can assume you got a welcome basket! As the FAQ says, "Except in extenuating circumstances, nearby you will find a welcome basket and a helpful pamphlet answering commonly-asked questions." Acumen handles depositing a basket near where you arrive, but it was conceived and prepared by other characters. Of course, noticing and trusting/distrusting the basket is up to your character. They all contain hand-written notes.

Welcome,

We know you have a lot of questions and this is probably very confusing, but we've packed some treats for you and a brochure with tips to make things a little easier. We look forward to getting to know you, so we hope to see you or hear you over the network soon!

Sincerely,

The Marina Asylum welcoming committee

Important Events:

Day 45: Euphemia li Britannia (Euphie) formed the committee.

Day 54: Road and Tyki tampered with a basket meant for Lavi although Allen was the one who started to eat a cookie with needles in it. While there was never any proof they were involved, it is strongly suspected that Road at least was the culprit. She used to provide candles for the baskets, but is no longer allowed to help with them.

Day 61: There was a mass influx of new arrivals, few of whom received baskets, because much of the committee was either bed ridden due to a mysterious sleeping sickness or they were preoccupied with taking care of the sick. Once she was feeling better Euphie made arrangements with Acumen for it to deliver baskets to the new arrivals. Previously, the committee had done so personally by talking to them over the network and finding out where they were if they weren't restrained. For those who were restrained they would have been delivered to one of the designated areas for their activities.

Day 92: Euphie disappeared from the dome, and as a result, the welcoming committee no longer receives the names of incoming inmates.

Questions/Contact: Euphie founded and heads the "welcoming committee" if your character has any IC questions. If you have any OOC questions you can contact Haunt.
