Coming from a family that had been part of a psychic ability using demon-hunter organization in the past, Shiki never had any chance of being on the "normal" side of the world or society, not even from the get-go. Inheriting the Ryougi family's unique ability of dual personalities, there was both a female Shiki (式) and a male SHIKI (織) personality in her; not multiple personality disorder, but aware, "united independant" sides of the same person that were in sync. Until...

April 1995. I met her.

Kokuto Mikiya, a boy in the same highschool as Shiki begins to befriend the isolated girl. Shiki is confused and unsure but accepts this; SHIKI surfaces more, as Mikiya is interesting, and develves the nature of the two personalities to him. Because of these reactions, the two personalities start to go out of order. Shiki's insecurity increases, and when mysterious murders commence in the city she is the prime suspect-- a fact Kokuto firmly denies as he feels that Shiki could never kill another, and tries to continue to be with her, despite her warning him away.

But contrary to Mikiya's belief, Ryougi Shiki does indeed have a taste for killing; as an attempt to murder him one night proves.
